The scene is repeated frequently. And this time you get
some help.
Speaking to a client overwhelmed by the enormity of
_____________ (you can fill in the blank)
In this case it was a book.
He became frustrated with not knowing what to write.
Then he became frustrated because he didn’t know precisely
how to write it.
Then, he was frustrated because he wasn’t sure where it
would go from there.
You see, writing, or whatever skill, task or project you’re
working on is a process.
Imagine for a moment that you’ve never run more then 3 miles
in your life (or even 10 miles)
Now imagine declaring you were going to run a marathon
tomorrow… fast… and enjoy it the whole way.
Sounds pretty unrealistic doesn’t it? Why?
Because running a marathon, writing a book or creating an
elevator speech are processes. They’re not done on the first
attempt. As a matter of fact, if you tried to complete any of
them on the first attempt, you’d end up pretty disappointed.
You may have figured out that part of success is learning to
embrace the process. The trick is to focus 100% of your energy
on it and take intermediate action until you reach your desired
outcome.
Along the way, you may not know how that action
fits into the big picture, but if you keep moving, chances are
it all works out.
How you do that is one of the fundamental elements of our
“Let Your Millionaire Out(R)” Programs.
Do you remember the riddle, “How do you eat an elephant?”
Answer: “One bite at a time”
It’s no different with the examples mentioned above. Here’s
a quick checklist to use the next time you’re faced with
overwhelming frustration:
= What’s my big elephant (i.e. new website, book, elevator speech)
= What are the steps necessary to achieve it? (i.e. buy domain,
web host, layout, design, etc)
= What one action can I take today?
= Repeat until complete
Although the process seems simple, following through
is not. That’s where the inner critic comes in and one of
the fundamental reasons I say you have a Millionaire inside
fighting to get out and the only person holding this Millionaire
back is You.
When frustration pops up, remember “Charlie Mike!”
