Crackers or Cookies?

A funny thing happened this past weekend during my flight to Austin, Texas for a speaking engagement.

On the trip down, as the flight attendants were passing out snacks with beverages, they continued to ask the same question of every passenger.

You may have experienced this, when they ask your drink order, they also asked whether we would like “Cheesy Cheese Crackers” or “Cookies.”

I could see the anxiety in people’s eyes as they struggled with which item to choose. Not me. I responded in a way they don’t hear very often.

When the flight attendant came to my row and asked me, I replied; “Both.”

It was as if she was awoken from a long sleep, as she paused to consider her response, the person sitting next to me said; “You can’t do that.” The flight attendant handed me both treats and moved on… much to the surprise of my seat mate.

Sure, it’s a fun example of the power of both, but a very important one. Chances are, if you settle for “one or the other” on the airplane, you’re probably settling for “one or the other” in life.

Life is abundant, it need not be about “this or that,” but can be about both. Where else do you settle? Where else do you choose between things when you rather have both?

And consider this, as the flight attendant passed my row again, she stopped and asked me if I wanted more. Our earlier response let her know my intention and now she was actively participating in my abundance. The Universe really wants to help you… but you need to ask.

The next time you’re faced with a difficult decision – listen for the word “or” – pause for a moment and ask yourself “would I really prefer both?”

If the answer is “yes,” speak up. Then you can discover how to get both, it doesn’t work the other way around. A world of abundance will open up to you… and some fun stories too.
